One for the Road, starring Lance Henriksen, begins Production in September

International Falls, MN, July 19th, 2017 – One for the Road, based on the short story by Stephen King, will begin production in September. Currently set to star in the film is veteran horror and science fiction actor Lance Henriksen (Aliens, Near Dark, Pumpkinhead), as well as Don Scribner, Matt Roy, and Daniel Bielinski. The film’s director, Joshua Brucker, aims to raise funds for the production over the next month and a half, using the popular crowdfunding platform Indiegogo.

“It’s truly an honor to work with such talented actors,” Brucker said. “I’ve gotten to know many of them personally over the past few months, and I’m quite confident in their abilities. Lance Henriksen is a legend in the business and I’m incredibly excited to watch his character come to life. All actors involved will complement the story quite well.”

One for the Road was first introduced to readers in 1977, then republished in 1978 in Stephen King’s first short story collection Night Shift. The story follows two reluctant men who agree to help a desperate and stranded traveler who unknowingly stumbles across the danger that lurks in ‘Salem’s Lot. It gives the reader a brief glimpse into the world of Jerusalem’s Lot, the setting of King’s second published novel, years after vampires infested the town.

“It’s a small, contained tale but filled with tremendous lore and mystery,” Brucker said of the story. “I’ve been a fan of King my entire life, and Night Shift was the first book I purchased that was penned by him. The story stuck with me since childhood, and I’m happy to have the opportunity to bring the story to life in a way that hasn’t been done before.”

The cast and crew are set and production begins in September in International Falls and Ranier, Minnesota, once the crowdfunding campaign is successful. Contributors to the Indiegogo campaign can expect perks such as access to view the film before the festival run, official posters, production stills, crew t-shirts, official film props, as well as the opportunity to have their image featured on a missing poster in the film.

The campaign launched on July 19th and is expected to run until August 19th or later.

“Filmmaking has always been a passion of mine,” Brucker finished. “I’ve been a huge fan of horror my entire life, and I aim to bring to the audience a film that stands out among the rest, doing King’s story justice and frightening viewers in the same way horror of the 80’s and 90’s frightened me. I want to give them something they can really sink their teeth into.”

‘One for the Road’ – Short Film Coming Late 2017

Since I haven’t issued a post for quite a while, I want to send out an update regarding what I’m currently working on.

Recently, I signed a “Dollar Baby” deal with Stephen King, giving me the permission to adapt one of his short stories to film! I thought I’d announce this as I recently heard from his offices, giving me the formal authorization to go through with the project.

Dollar Babies essentially work like this: I apply through King’s website. Once I’m accepted, they issue a contract. I sign the contract, include a dollar bill in the envelope, and mail it back to him. For that dollar, I’m granted the right adapt. One catch: I cannot distribute the film commercially, meaning I cannot make a profit off the final copy. Really, this is a project designed to show my potential down the road. I can, however, enter the short movie into non-profit festivals and luckily for me, there is a good number of them.

The story I’m adapting is titled ‘One For The Road.’ The short story can be found in his Night Shift Collection. It is a sequel to his second published novel, ‘Salem’s Lot. Though the story itself presents a few difficulties production-wise, I believe it’s entirely doable with the time and patience I’m willing to dedicate. Give it a read if you have a copy on hand. It’s a great little tale!

I recently squared away the script and created a rough budget. Once I work out the budget, to the exact dollar, I’m putting together a Kickstarter campaign to bring this project together. I’m very excited to work on this as it’ll be an entirely new experience for me!

If you live in Kankakee County and have any interest in taking part in this project, I’d love to talk to you! Just go ahead and send me a message or text if you know my number. Thanks a lot, and I will keep up with the updates!
